Flash Flickr Badge Demo
July 12th, 2006
PLEASE NOTE: Visit the badgr project page for the latest info and download of badgr, this post is no longer being maintained.
Earlier I made a Flickr Badge to use on my site, and now you can use it too, it's built in Flash and requires FlashPlayer 7 and upwards to work, personally I really like it! If you like it too it's pretty easy to put it into your blog or webpage, before you decide, you'll probably want to see how your own photo's are going to look in it, so I've built a demo for you to try it out.
Flickr Id:
You'll need to get your Flickr Id [click here to find your Flickr Id] and then enter it into the text box, and click the "Badge it!" button, The Flickr badge will appear with your photo's along with instructions and customised code which you'll need to place the Flickr Badge into your blog or webpage, if there are no photo's showing up, make sure you've got your Flickr Id entered properly (and make sure that you've got some photo's in your Flickr account too! .. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious!)
<div id="flickr_latest" align="center">Requires Flash (place your non flash content here.)</div>
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
// <![CDATA[
var so = new SWFObject("/flash/MentalaxisFlickrBadge.swf?userid=75556562@N00", "flickr_latest", "190", "190", "8", "#ffffff");
so.write("flickr_latest");
// ]]>
</script>
How to use the Flickr badge
Download the .swf file from here and upload it to your web server into a folder called /flash/ (from your webroot)
You'll also need SWFObject, follow the instructions on that site to install the SWFObject script.
Once those two are installed on your webserver you'll have to add the code from the box above into your webpage, where you want the Flickr badge to display and that should do it, if you get stuck post a comment and I'll see if I can help you out.
What can I do if I can't use JavaScript?
If you can't use JavaScript, you can place the Flickr badge on the page using the pre Microsoft / EOLAS patent problem method.
Here's the code you'll need. If you've entered your Flickr Id above and clicked "Badge it!" the code will be updated for you.
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" width="190" height="190" id="badgr" align="middle"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="/flash/MentalaxisFlickrBadge.swf?userid=75556562@N00" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="/flash/MentalaxisFlickrBadge.swf?userid=75556562@N00" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="190" height="190" name="badgr" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /> </object>
MySpace compatible code
I've put together some code which should work in MySpace, please let me know if it doesn't.
As with the other code enter your Flickr Id and click "Bagde it" and the code will be customised for you.
<embed src="http://www.mentalaxis.com/fl8/badgr.swf?userid=75556562@N00&limit=25" quality="high" width="190" height="190" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />
can you Digg it?
is it del.icio.us?

I wish I could find a way to include my latest flickr photos without javascript. This is a snazzy design, I love it! Any idea where I can get a flickr include that doesn’t use javascript? I’d like to show my photos on MySpace and they don’t allow Javascript. >.

I’ve added the non-javascript method and the required code generation below, please let me know if it works in MySpace.
Cheers.

I couldn’t get it to work. Something about Myspace turns the Object tags into … and ruins the code. Ah well. Thanks anyway! I really appreciate it.

No problem, shame it didn’t work.
Checked out your other page, nice design.

I like it… I got it working, very nice. Why do you make the bigger version have such a wide black border, tho? Seems like the big version should be bigger or the size of the border tunable based on personal preferences?

Good job, indeed…Ive been trying to hack the official badge for months. Will there ever be more customization parameters in the future? For example, Id like to embed a smaller badge with larger thumbnails, display images with a certain tag rather than just the most recent, and not have unviewed images be grayed out. Is this last option possibly related to the wmode param?

Sweet! I used the Myspace code, I’ve been looking for something to show my Flickr photos in the myspace profile. Thanks for making that!

Anyone know where I can find A FLICKR bade that is HTML based and works on myspace? I don’t like this FLash badge because myspace blocks LINKS in flash..so they won’t go to a bigger sizd version of the pictures.
A simple html version would be nice.

I got the myspace script to work, thanks!
Wonder though if there is a way to have a bigger badge and maybe put a link to my flickr page on the badge?
I tried to increase the width & height of the script you’ve provided and the badge stayed the same size with the surrounding box increasing in size.
Here is the code I currently have in my myspace page:
Thanks - Dza
